![]() The suspension tasks are handled by Showa-sourced 47mm, fully-adjustable upside-down front forks and a fully-adjustable Ohlins rear mono-shock. The hardware comprises a tubular steel frame. The standard Scrambler 1200 and the Steve McQueen edition use a 1,200cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that makes 89bhp of maximum power at 7,250rpm and 110Nm of peak torque at 4,500rpm. The Steve McQueen edition, similar to the standard Scrambler 1200, rides on tubeless-tyre compatible, 21-inch front/17-inch rear wire-spoke wheels. The electronic rider aids include cruise control, cornering ABS, traction control system, and six riding modes. The Bluetooth-connected system offers access to phone calls, music, turn-by-turn navigation, and GoPro. The feature list on the motorcycle includes full-LED lighting and a Triumph M圜onnectivity-ready digital instrument cluster. Other styling features that distinguish the Steve McQueen edition include a dedicated McQueen tank graphic, a brushed aluminium Monza cap, a brown seat cover, a stainless-steel tank strap, and an individual number on the billet aluminium handlebar. The limited-edition variant, however, gets a Competition Green colour with hand-painted gold lining and retro Triumph logos. The Scrambler 1200 Steve McQueen edition carries a similar design as the standard model. The company is yet to introduce the standard variant of the motorcycle in our market. With both front and rear disc brakes, Triumph Scrambler 1200 comes up with anti-locking braking system. Hairpin corners that on so many other bikes would require second gear can be breezed through in third without any problem at all. As usual, the clutch is light and the gearbox ultra slick – in fact, the gearbox seems to work brilliantly without any clutch at all. The Brembo M50 brakes are monstrously powerful but not too powerful – all day long, on a very fast paced ride, one finger was all it took to haul either bike down from proper speeds for hairpin bends. The XE's suspension makes for more weight transfer back and forth and a less connected feeling as you chuck it into bends, whereas the XC feels quicker to steer and far more planted and responsive. But that's not to say the XE is "bad", it just handles differently. The XC, with its shorter wheelbase and steeper steering angle is clearly the more exciting of the two. Two things are for sure, no other Scrambler comes even remotely close to this level of ability and the XE, in the right hands, will be a complete #BeastMode weapon on any terrain. Between the two bikes off-road, it should come as no surprise that the XE feels more adept to the task the XC might have the same suspension travel but it seems to skit over ruts and obstacles, whereas the XE takes it all in its stride and begs for more. The suspension, too, is massive fun, as it'll soak up every bump in sight – it's so good that you don't even need to stand up to use your limbs as extra suspension. ![]() Off-road mode is predictable and as your confidence grows it'll let you spin and lock the rear tyre up, which is endless fun. The Scrambler doesn't feel too heavy and the weight doesn't feel like it's particularly high up. This doesn't feel like a bike being forced to do something it doesn't want to. The tyres had been swapped out for knobbly versions that work extremely well in the dirt, which no doubt helped, but with the bike moving around under you, everything feels totally natural. It holds your hand, tells you that everything's going to be OK, and lets you tackle the rough stuff at your own pace. Starting with off-road, and from the point of view of a relative novice, the Scrambler 1200 is immediately welcoming.
